About

Doc Galahan is a Cincinnati-based pseudonymous artist and writer who is creating a multidisciplinary work covering street art installations, gallery exhibitions, creative fiction, and digital media.

Galahan first appeared on the Cincinnati art scene with a show presented by ArtsConnect in Springfield Township. The exhibition featured four interactive holographic boxes (Spectragraphs), 30 Anaglyph 3D prints and a tent called 'The Veil Experience' designed to show Galahan's Light Changing Prints, called Spectraglyphs. In December 2021, the next iteration of the Veil Experience appeared at the ninth-annual ArtLocal Art Show held at Centennial Barn. In 2022 Galahan brought the Veil Experience to the Pike Street Art Wall in Covington, KY in which he installed 3 24"x36" panels that change with the color of light. In Feb. 2024, Doc Galahan collaborated with Second Sight Spirits in to launch the Scarlet Veil, a red absinthe created by Doc and Second Sight that features Doc's light changing art on the bottle.

A Narrative Art Experience

Doc Galahan’s work is a narrative art exploration in four parts. The story manifests itself through a growing set of print plates, a 19th century illustrated newspaper, an audio/video podcast, and a street art series that appear at various locations in Cincinnati.

The Art Prints

Doc's growing number of print plates represent the core of the narrative art experience, each plate features characters and scenes from Doc’s world. Every plate generally consists of a featured subject or subjects wrapped in or enhanced by a floral element and is created with a story in mind.

The Queensgate Observer

Inspired by 19th century serialized stories, illustrated newspapers, and epistolary storytelling the entire first season will be told via an illustrated newspaper.

Every article, advertisement, and piece of art is created as if the reader picked up the Observer from a Queensgate newsstand in 1853. Every aspect of the paper is written, designed and illustrated by the artist behind Doc Galahan. The first season consists of 12 issues with the first issue releasing soon. However, a special edition was released on February 10th at the Scarlet Veil Release Party. The Special Edition takes place two years before the origin event in 1851.

Spectragraph Machines (Audio/Video Releases)

We know of Queensgate and Doc Galahan through a device known as a Spectragraph. It is a device which projects imagery and sound. Presumably, these Spectragraphs and the transmissions they project (aka spectragrams) began to appear in Cincinnati, Ohio between the late 1920’s and the mid-1980’s.

Every few years, the Spectragraphs begin to transmit a sequence of transmissions. Should you find them, you will be able to experience the transmissions. With that said, should you not have the opportunity to find them or visit Cincinnati, each transmission will be documented and posted on YouTube on the Doc Galahan channel. Additionally the audio will be released across a wide variety of podcast platforms (Apple, Spotify, Amazon, etc).

The Anomalies (Street Art Installations)

Another aspect of Doc Galahan’s unusual world is that it often bleeds into ours, sometimes leaving behind remnants of its past, present or future.

This occurs only in the Queen City. As the Observer and the Spectragraphs begin to find their way into our world the veil between our worlds is growing thinner and objects from Doc Galahan’s Queensgate will begin to find their way into our world. While we cannot predict what anomalies will occur. You can be certain that such strange occurrences will be properly documented.
